Job Description

Role Overview:

The incumbent will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment for the Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) Plant. The role includes managing all mechanical project deliverables across engineering, procurement, fabrication, erection, and commissioning.

The candidate will be required to work cross-functionally with design, civil, electrical, and automation teams. The role involves frequent international travel to oversee project sites and ensure compliance with global standards, safety, and timely execution.

Role & responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering aspects of DRI plant projects from conceptual design through commissioning and handover.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, mechanical designs, and project schedules.
  • Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and site engineers to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Oversee selection, installation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment including pelletisers, crushers, conveyors, kilns, and cooling systems.
  • Monitor mechanical integrity and troubleshoot equipment issues to avoid operational disruptions.
  • Ensure adherence to technical standards and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Liaise with international vendors, contractors, and consultants for procurement, fabrication, and installation activities.
  • Facilitate smooth communication between cross-functional teams across geographies.
  • Manage inspection and quality control processes during various project phases.
  • Conduct frequent international site visits (USA, Middle East, South Africa) for supervision, inspection, and problem resolution.
  • Lead commissioning, testing, and start-up activities at project sites to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide on-ground support and training to client teams and contractors.
  • Prepare progress reports, project documentation, and technical reports for management review.
  • Maintain accurate records of mechanical design changes, equipment logs, and project milestones.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for mechanical systems and project execution methods.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in DRI and pellet plants.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelors or masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • 10 to 15 years of mechanical project experience in DRI, palletization, or steel plants.
  • The candidate must be willing to undertake extensive travel to site locations worldwide.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
