Layout Designer

As a Layout Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting layout reviews with both internal and external teams, monitoring layout progress, and managing changes effectively. Collaborating closely with electrical engineers, you will design circuit board assemblies encompassing various components such as MCU, SOC, high voltage, high power, HDI, and high-speed specifications. Your role will involve designing printed circuit boards that meet high volume production standards and working with mechanical engineers on mechanical-electrical packaging. Furthermore, you will support quick-turn board builds with PCB contract manufacturers, release technical documents including BOM and design procedures, and ensure compliance with layout rules by coordinating layout activities across different teams. Your expertise in high-speed PCB layout, particularly routing high speed digital interfaces like DDRx memory and PCIe, as well as experience with constraints-driven PCB layout methodology will be crucial in this role. Basic qualifications for this position include a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university and a minimum of 10 years of experience in high-speed PCB layout. Preferred qualifications include experience in industrial or automotive sectors, detailed knowledge of high-speed digital PCB routing constraints, and proficiency in managing 3rd party layout services. Additionally, you should be adept at participating in schematic and design reviews, leading layout design reviews, and utilizing CAD tools such as Cadence, Mentor, Altium, and Zuken. To ensure success in this role, you should possess critical character traits including curiosity to drive changes at the department level, the ability to provide solutions for competitive advantage, and a self-starting attitude with minimal supervision. Leadership skills, effective communication in complex scenarios, and the ability to work both as a team player and a task leader are essential qualities.
