Job Description

As a Laboratory Technician, you play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy in managing and analyzing patient samples. Your responsibilities include: - Checking each sample upon receipt to ensure correct and complete labeling, including patient name, date of collection, and sample type. - Verifying essential clinical information on accompanying requisition forms and requested tests. - Recording sample receipt accurately in the laboratory information system (LIS). - Identifying and documenting reasons for rejecting samples that do not meet acceptance criteria. - Managing barcoding using the LIS and addressing any discrepancies. - Inspecting samples visually for clotting or hemolysis and documenting their condition for further processing. - Organizing samples by testing priority and equipment compatibility before loading them into analyzers. - Reviewing test results in comparison with reference values, patient history, and clinical indicators. - Utilizing the LIS to identify abnormal results requiring urgent attention. - Performing necessary repeats or confirmatory tests for results that need rechecking. - Logging all AMR findings and corrective actions in response to equipment or procedural failures. - Comparing current results with previous data to ensure consistency and accuracy, especially in chronic cases. - Monitoring test progress to identify overdue tests and maintain or improve Turnaround Time (TAT). - Performing start-up checks, calibrations, and maintenance on all instruments. - Scheduling inspections and functionality tests of equipment, documenting all maintenance activities. - Assessing reagents and consumables stock levels regularly, reordering before reaching critical low levels. - Checking new stock deliveries against orders and storing reagents following manufacturer instructions. To qualify for this role, you need: - Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field. - Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician. - Knowledge of laboratory information systems and procedures. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample handling and result analysis. - Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while upholding quality standards. - Understanding of safety protocols and procedures in a laboratory setting.,
