Job Description

Role Overview: As a Laboratory Technician, your mission is to maintain the highest standards of quality and accuracy in managing and analyzing patient samples. You will be responsible for handling samples from receipt to reporting, ensuring precision and integrity in each phase of the process. Your role includes maintaining a secure, organized, and safe working environment while continuously striving to enhance customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities: - Check each sample upon receipt for correct and complete labeling, including patient name, date of collection, and sample type. - Verify requisition forms for essential clinical information and requested tests, and accurately log each sample in the laboratory information system (LIS). - Identify and document samples that do not meet acceptance criteria, notify senders with necessary corrective actions, and store or dispose of rejected samples following safety guidelines. - Manage barcoding using the LIS, measure volumes if not visually ascertainable, and record any discrepancies. - Inspect samples for clotting or hemolysis, document their condition, and organize them by priority and compatibility with analytical equipment. - Review test results, identify abnormal results needing urgent attention, and perform necessary repeats or confirmatory tests. - Log all findings and corrective actions in response to equipment or procedural failures, and report any test results falling within panic value ranges to healthcare providers. - Compare current results with previous data, ensure validation through Consultants and Secondary checks, and monitor test progress to identify any overdue tests. Qualifications Required: - Experience in sample management, result handling, and reagents/instruments management in a laboratory setting. - Proficiency in utilizing laboratory information systems (LIS) and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation. - Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment. - Knowledge of quality control measures, stock inventory management, and adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
