•               Identify appropriate methods of specimen collection, preservation, or transport. •               Recognize and report abnormalities in the color, size, shape, composition, or pattern of sample received and check sample for the rejection criteria. •               Input details of specimens into registration logs. •               Select or prepare specimens and media for cell cultures using aseptic techniques, knowledge of medium components, or cell nutritional requirements. •               Harvest cell cultures using substances such as mitotic arrestants, cell releasing agents, and cell fixatives. •               Prepare working reagents based on SOP’s and log the preparation and expiry dates, required storage temperature, etc. •               Prepare slides of cell cultures following standard procedures. •               Select banding methods to permit identification of chromosome pairs. •               Stain slides to make chromosomes visible for microscopy. •               Count numbers of chromosomes and identify the structural abnormalities by viewing culture slides through microscopes, light microscopes, or photomicroscopes. •               Arrange and attach chromosomes in numbered pairs for karyotyping, using standard genetics laboratory practices and nomenclature, to identify normal or abnormal chromosomes. •               Summarize test results and report to appropriate seniors/authorities. •               Maintain laboratory equipment such as photomicroscopes, inverted microscopes, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, etc. •               Monitoring the temperatures of equipment and record them in log sheets. •               Logging the start and end timings for usage of various equipment. Check for stock requirements and regularly update the data.
