Internal Auditor Head

Role

We are a large, export-oriented packaging manufacturing vertical within a diversified industrial group, with revenues of ~4,500 Cr. As we scale, we are focused on institutionalising systems, controls, and governance, while retaining operational agility.

We are seeking a senior Internal Audit & Risk professional to act as an independent assurance and governance partner to the Promoters and Board. This role is central to strengthening financial discipline, process integrity, risk management, and audit maturity across manufacturing and export operations.

Responsibilities

1. Internal Audit Framework & Governance

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a risk-based internal audit framework across:
• Finance & accounts
• Procurement & vendor management
• Inventory & stores
• Sales, receivables & credit control
• Capex & project controls
• Manufacturing operations, yields & losses
• Establish annual and quarterly audit plans aligned with business risks and growth priorities.
• Ensure audit practices align with best-in-class professional standards for large manufacturing organisations.

2. Financial & Transactional Audits

• Oversee and periodically perform:
• Cheque / payment audits
• Bank & treasury controls
• Expense reimbursements
• Delegation of authority (DoA) compliance
• Strengthen controls around:
• Vendor payments
• Customer credit
• Export documentation and incentives
• Related-party transactions

3. Operational & Manufacturing Audits

• Conduct audits focused on:
• Raw material consumption
• Yield losses, wastage, and variances
• Plant-level SOP adherence
• Production planning vs actuals
• Work closely with plant teams to identify control gaps without disrupting operations.

4. Risk Management & Fraud Prevention

• Develop and maintain a risk register for the packaging vertical.
• Identify and investigate:
• Process leaks
• Control circumvention
• Potential fraud indicators
• Recommend preventive controls rather than post-facto policing.

5. Board & Promoter Reporting

• Independently present:
• Key audit findings
• Risk observations
• Systemic issues
• Trend-based insights
• Escalate critical issues directly to the Board / Promoters, with clarity and evidence.
• Track closure of audit observations and corrective actions.

6. Team Leadership & Capability Building

• Build and manage a small internal audit team responsible for execution and follow-ups.
• Define SOPs, checklists, and documentation standards.
• Coach junior auditors to think beyond checklist audits.

7. Process Improvement & Institutionalisation

• Partner with management to:
• Improve SOPs
• Strengthen internal controls
• Simplify processes without weakening governance
• Support the groups journey towards higher audit maturity, potential PE/IPO readiness, or global best practices (as applicable over time).

Preferred candidate profile

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Accountant (CA) mandatory
• 8–15 years of post-qualification experience
• Strong industry experience in manufacturing
• Prior exposure to:
• Internal audit in large organizations
• Manufacturing plant audits
• Export-oriented businesses
• Experience working with promoters, boards, or audit committees
