Interconnect Product Design Engineer

We are part of a world-class product development organization that pioneers industry-leading hardware designs for IBM POWER Systems servers as well as Storage, Quantum, and IBM Research.Within this organization, the IBM Interconnect Engineer will conceive, design, and bring products. Interconnect engineer will work closely with multiple cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, Signal Integrity, Antenna, Reliability, Packaging, Safety, Marketing. Interconnect engineer will work as a team has defined interconnect interfaces that have been used on designing next generation of computers.Challenges of high performance and high reliability server solutions include high density designs with complex system requirements that require creative solutions from our mechanical design team to optimize system designs. The candidate will work in a multi-functional environment where the requirements of thermal, acoustics, electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC), structural integrity, safety, industrial design, cost, performance, and functionality must all be satisfied to deliver a final solution. Working with a focused team, the candidate will develop interconnect products from concept through product release. Primary responsibilities will be to specify IBM Appliance product configurations composed of compute servers, storage drawers, networking switches, and cabling to enable worldwide fulfillment and shipping to external clients. Required education Bachelor's Degree Preferred education Master's Degree Required technical and professional expertise Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent programAround 4-6 years engineering experienceHighly skilled in Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools; creating 2D drawings and 3D models:Solidworks PreferredMechanical analysistolerance analysis (GD&T), clash analysis, structural analysisSkilled in Interconnect part design / sheet metal/ plastic/ die-cast/machining/ 3D printingSkilled in design for manufacturability (DFM)Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and WordSelf-starter, self-motivated, and able to independently drive tasks to completionWillingness to work hands on with mechanical componentsMust be effective working in a team-based atmosphere Preferred technical and professional experience

Prefer 5 years Mechanical engineering experience

Masters degree or higher in applicable engineering discipline

Basic understanding of server and computer architecture

Strong and effective soft skills including verbal and written communication, problem solving/critical thinking, time management, and being a team player
