About the Role

Instrument Technician

This role is field-intensive and requires strong hands-on competency with oilfield instruments and exposure to DCS/PLC environments.

Key Responsibilities

Field Instrumentation Maintenance

  • Carry out daily inspection, calibration, and preventive maintenance of

    pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters

    .
  • Maintain and troubleshoot

    control valves, MOVs, ESD valves, solenoid valves, gas detectors, vibration sensors, and flame detectors

    .
  • Verify the health of instruments installed on

    wellheads, separators, manifolds, pipelines, flare systems, heaters

    , etc.
  • Perform loop checking, signal verification, and ensure correct field-to-DCS communication.
  • Assist in installation and commissioning of new instruments or modifications as per engineering requirements.

Operational Support

  • Respond to field alarms, equipment failures, and instrumentation faults.
  • Support production operators to ensure smooth and safe operations of the well pads.
  • Coordinate with the DCS/Instrumentation Engineer for logic issues, tag discrepancies, or abnormal readings.
  • Report deviations in process parameters that may affect production or safety.
  • Document all field activities, calibration reports, and instrument history.

DCS/PLC Coordination

  • Provide inputs to DCS/Instrumentation Engineer for logic corrections or field signal issues.
  • Verify instrument readings and alarm functions displayed on the DCS.
  • Participate in cause-and-effect testing, ESD logic verification, and loop tuning support.

Safety Compliance

  • Follow all Oil & Gas industry safety standards (OISD norms).
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of instruments, chemicals, and electrical systems.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, HSE drills, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Report unsafe conditions and help maintain a safe working environment.

Skills & Experience Required

Technical Competencies

  • ITI / Diploma in

    Instrumentation, Electronics, or Industrial Control

    .
  • Hands-on experience with field instruments used in Oil & Gas or heavy industrial plants.
  • Practical knowledge of

    HART communicators

    , multimeters, loop calibrators, pressure calibrators, etc.
  • Ability to interpret

    P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring drawings, instrument datasheets

    , and calibration sheets.
  • Familiarity with DCS/PLC basics (Honeywell, DeltaV, ABB, Yokogawa, Siemens etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of communication protocols (HART / Modbus / 420 mA).

Behavioral Attributes

  • Strong troubleshooting ability and logical thinking.
  • Good teamwork and coordination skills.
  • Willingness to work in remote field conditions.
  • Safety-conscious with disciplined work habits.

Preferred Experience

  • 2–12 years of experience in

    instrumentation maintenance

    in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Plants, or Heavy Industries.
  • Experience with well pad operations or production facilities will be an advantage.
