Horticulturist

Key Responsibilities

Plant Selection and Care

• Collaborate with landscape designers to select appropriate plant species based on climate, soil, and aesthetic requirements for each project.
• Advise on plant maintenance schedules to enhance long-term health and vibrancy.

Landscape Design Support

• Work alongside designers to develop plant layouts that complement overall landscape aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability goals.
• Provide guidance on plant spacing, growth patterns, and seasonal changes to create balanced, sustainable designs.
• Recommend plant combinations that enhance color schemes, textures, and seasonal interest.

Soil and Irrigation Management

• Conduct soil assessments to determine nutrient levels and recommend soil amendments for optimal plant growth.
• Oversee the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and system functionality.

Sustainable Landscaping Practices

• Advocate for eco-friendly and sustainable landscaping solutions, including the use of native plants, water-efficient irrigation, and organic pest management.
• Promote sustainable practices that reduce water consumption, minimize pesticide use, and encourage biodiversity within landscapes.

Project Management and Coordination

• Collaborate with other team members, including landscape architects, designers, and contractors, to ensure the seamless execution of projects from concept to completion.
• Assist with the sourcing, ordering, and delivery of plants and materials for landscaping projects.
• Provide expertise during project installation to ensure plants are properly installed and positioned for long-term success.

Client Communication and Education

• Serve as a point of contact for clients regarding plant care, maintenance tips, and landscape improvement recommendations.
• Educate clients on the proper care and benefits of the plants chosen for their landscapes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or design (6+ years preferred).
• Solid knowledge of plant species, soil types, irrigation systems, and pest management.
• Experience with landscape design principles and ability to work closely with landscape architects/designers.
• Strong understanding of sustainable gardening and eco-friendly practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients, team members, and contractors.
• Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Certification in horticulture, landscape design, or related fields (e.g., Certified Horticulturist) is a plus.
