Job Description

Job title and reporting

  • Designation: Head of Department – MBA
  • Department: Department of Management Studies (MBA)
  • Reporting to: Principal / Dean – Academics

Role purpose

The HOD–MBA provides academic and administrative leadership to the MBA department, ensuring high-quality teaching–learning, research, admissions, and industry engagement in line with institutional vision, regulatory norms, and accreditation requirements.

Key responsibilitiesAcademic leadership

  • Plan and implement the department’s academic calendar, timetables, and workload allocation as per university/AICTE norms.
  • Ensure effective delivery of curriculum, lesson plans, and evaluation systems, and monitor course files, CO–PO mapping, and attainment.

Faculty management

  • Lead recruitment, induction, mentoring, and performance appraisal of MBA faculty in coordination with the Principal / HR.
  • Facilitate FDPs, research guidance, and continuous upskilling of faculty to improve teaching quality and research output.

Student development

  • Monitor student attendance, discipline, and performance; implement remedial, bridge, and value-added courses as needed.
  • Promote mentoring, career guidance, soft-skill training, and placement-readiness activities for MBA students.

Research and industry interface

  • Promote faculty and student research, publications, consultancy, and funded projects.
  • Build and maintain linkages with industry for guest lectures, internships, live projects, industrial visits, and placements.

Administration and compliance

  • Prepare and monitor departmental budgets, resource requirements, and optimal utilisation of classrooms, labs, and library resources.
  • Ensure compliance with AICTE, university, NBA/NAAC and other statutory/quality assurance requirements, including documentation and audits.

Quality assurance and governance

  • Coordinate departmental meetings, BOS inputs, AQAR/NBA data, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse academic results, feedback from stakeholders, and implement corrective and preventive actions for improvement.

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualification: First class MBA with Ph.D. in Management (preferred) as per AICTE / university norms.
  • Experience: Minimum prescribed teaching/research/industry experience for Professor grade with proven leadership at department/section level.
