Job Description

Position Summary:

The Head of the Department (HOD) Visual Communication will provide academic

leadership, strategic direction, and administrative management for the department. The role

involves fostering innovation in teaching, learning, and research in the fields of media,

design, photography, filmmaking, animation, advertising, and communication. The HOD will

ensure high academic standards, industry collaborations, and student success, while also mentoring faculty members.

Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

• Provide vision and leadership in the development of curriculum, pedagogy, and

research in Visual Communication.

• Oversee academic planning, syllabus updates, and compliance with

University/Accreditation bodies (NAAC, AICTE, UGC, etc., if applicable).

• Promote interdisciplinary learning and integration of new technologies in media and

communication.

Faculty & Staff Management

• Mentor and evaluate faculty members.

• Facilitate faculty development programs, workshops, and training.

• Encourage research publications, creative projects, and professional growth.

Student Development

• Guide students in academic projects, internships, and career planning.

• Ensure quality teaching, mentoring, and extracurricular activities.

• Promote creativity, innovation, and industry readiness among students.

Industry Research Collaboration

• Establish partnerships with media houses, advertising agencies, production studios,

and creative industries.

• Initiate consultancy projects, research grants, and sponsored programs.

• Organize seminars, workshops, fests, exhibitions, screenings, and guest lectures.

Administration Management

• Prepare departmental budgets, academic schedules, and workload distribution.

• Monitor teaching-learning processes, results, and continuous improvements.

• Ensure adherence to institutional policies, quality benchmarks, and accreditation

standards.

Qualifications Experience:

• Masters degree in Visual Communication / Mass Communication / Media Studies /

Fine Arts / Film Studies or equivalent (Ph.D. preferred).

• Minimum 1015 years of academic/industry experience, with at least 5 years in a

leadership or senior faculty role.

• Strong portfolio of academic publications, creative works, or industry contributions.

• Experience in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and academic

governance.

Skills Competencies:

• Strong leadership, decision-making, and team management abilities.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Expertise in areas such as media production, journalism, film, animation,

photography, advertising, or digital media.

• Ability to build industry-academia linkages and promote student employability.

• Vision for innovation, creativity, and global trends in Visual Communication.
