Job Summary

The IVR Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for accurately assigning and reviewing medical codes for Interventional Radiology (IVR) procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and payer requirements. This role requires in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and specialized coding for interventional radiology procedures, with a focus on both ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Code Interventional Radiology Procedures

  : Review and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to IVR-related procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, using detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and procedural coding.

• Documentation Review

  : Ensure all clinical documentation from physicians, radiologists, and medical staff is complete and accurate, and is in line with coding guidelines and payer requirements.

• Ensure Compliance

  : Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations, payer policies, and compliance guidelines to ensure accurate coding and prevent claims denials or fraud.

• Coding Audits

  : Perform periodic coding audits to verify the accuracy of codes assigned and identify potential issues or inconsistencies. Report findings and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Claims Management

  : Collaborate with the billing department to resolve coding discrepancies, address denied claims, and ensure timely processing of insurance claims related to IVR procedures.

• Medical Record Review

  : Analyze and interpret clinical records, radiology reports, and procedure notes to identify key details necessary for accurate coding.

• Collaboration

  : Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to clarify clinical documentation and ensure proper coding.

• Ongoing Education

  : Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and best practices related to IVR procedures and medical coding in general.

• Certifications

  :
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
  

• Experience

  :
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding, specifically within Interventional Radiology or related specialties.
  
• Familiarity with medical terminology, procedures, and anatomy related to radiology is essential
