Highway Design Engineer

Role & responsibilities

The Highway Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design and development of national highways, state highways, expressways, and urban roads. With 2 - 7 Years of experience, the engineer will independently handle portions of design work (alignments, cross-sections, pavement design, drainage, etc.) while working under the guidance of senior engineers. The role requires both technical capability and coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review

  geometric designs

  including horizontal/vertical alignments, profiles, cross-sections, junctions, interchanges, and roundabouts.
• Conduct

  pavement design

  (flexible & rigid) as per IRC/MoRTH/AASHTO standards.
• Assist in

  hydrology and drainage design

  for highways.
• Develop

  drawings, BOQs, and cost estimates

  using design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX Road, OpenRoads).
• Review survey data, DEMs, and topographic maps for design inputs.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (structures, geotechnical, traffic, environment).
• Prepare and contribute to

  Detailed Project Reports (DPRs)

  and feasibility studies.
• Ensure compliance with IRC, MoRTH, AASHTO, Eurocodes, and other applicable standards.
• Provide design support during construction, including

  issuing design clarifications and revisions

  .
• Mentor and guide junior engineers/draftsmen on design tasks.

Preferred candidate profile

• 2 to 7 years of experience in highway design.
• Proficient in highway design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MX Road).
• Strong understanding of geometric design principles and traffic flow management.
• Familiarity with IRC, AASHTO, and other relevant standards.
• Knowledge of material specifications, cost estimation, and quantity takeoffs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
