Role & responsibilities

Lead Scientist Device Coatings & Surface Chemistry

hands-on and research-driven

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize

  polymer and drug-based coatings

  for medical devices.
• Work on

  drug-coated and surface-modified devices

  to improve performance and biocompatibility.
• Perform

  surface preparation and treatment

  of metals such as

  Nitinol and cobalt-based alloys

  .
• Apply

  wet chemistry techniques

  including surface etching, functionalization, and coating deposition.
• Design experiments to study

  drugpolymer interactions and release behavior

  .
• Characterize coatings using tools such as

  SEM, FTIR, HPLC, UV spectroscopy

  , and related techniques.
• Evaluate coating durability, adhesion, and performance under simulated conditions.
• Set up and manage the

  surface chemistry and coatings laboratory

  .
• Develop

  SOPs, test methods, and lab documentation

  .
• Ensure

  lab safety, compliance, and good documentation practices

  .
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineersSupport preparation of technical documentation for

  biocompatibility and regulatory submissions

  (ISO 10993, FDA requirements, combination product guidelines).
• Work closely with

  R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams

  to support product development and scale-up.

Preferred candidate profile

industry experience

• Experience in

  medical devices, implantable products, drug-coated devices, or biomaterials

  .
• Strong knowledge of

  polymer chemistry, surface chemistry, and wet chemistry processes

  .
• Experience working in

  regulated environments

  (medical devices or pharmaceuticals).
• Exposure to

  ISO 13485 / FDA / EU MDR

  requirements is highly desirable.

Education & Experience

• PhD or Masters degree in

  Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering

  , or related field.

• 10+ years

  of relevant industry experience (academic-only profiles may not be suitable).
