Job Description

The person will be responsible for the daily operation of the eye transplant programme, from harvesting of donor eyes to their eventual transplantation. Additionally, he/she will play a role in promoting the Hospital Cornea Retrieval programme. The person should be well-versed in Tamil language.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) Responding to eye donation requests and informing the staff responsible for eye harvesting. (b) Coordinating transportation for eye donations. (c) Conducting rounds in ICUs (NICU, SICU, MICU) to encourage potential donors to participate in eye donation. (d) Keeping records of eye donation requests, actual eye harvesting, and the number of eyes utilized. (e) Managing files containing donor information. (f) Maintaining the keratoplasty register, documenting types of surgeries performed and visual outcomes. (g) Keeping the recipient register and contacting patients for surgery based on their position in the queue. (h) Periodically assessing the eye bank equipment and maintaining stocks of MK Media / Cornisol. (i) Monitoring storage facilities, including fridge temperatures and ensuring the sterility of media with corneal buttons. (j) Collaborating with NGOs and other relevant parties as needed.
