GCP Data Engineer (BigQuery Developer)

Role & responsibilities

BigQuery

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot

    complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.

  • Build and maintain data pipelines to support reporting and analytics use cases.
  • Perform data validation, profiling, and quality checks to ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and engineering teams to understand data requirements.
  • Write

    Python scripts

    for automation, orchestration, and lightweight data processing tasks.
  • Monitor and improve performance of BigQuery workloads and queries.
  • Maintain documentation of data flows, transformations, and processes.

Required candidate profile

  • 7- 9 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or BI development.

  • Proven hands-on experience with

    Google BigQuery and GCP data services (e.g., Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions; Dataflow is a plus).

  • Strong expertise in

    SQL, including analytical functions, joins, CTEs, and window functions.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Python for scripting and automation.
  • Solid understanding of

    data warehouse concepts, data modeling, and normalization.

  • Familiarity with version control systems like

    Git.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ETL tools and data pipeline orchestration.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and cloud-based architecture best practices.
