Subtitle Localization Specialist

Primary Responsibilities

• Translation & Localization:

  Translate spoken English dialogue into fluent, culturally appropriate French subtitles, preserving meaning, tone, and context.

• Timing & Syncing:

  Adjust subtitles to align with audio cues, shot changes, and visual pacing, ensuring readability and timing accuracy.

• Editing & Proofreading:

  Review subtitles for grammatical accuracy, spelling, style consistency, and formatting, in line with project specifications.

• Collaboration:

  Work closely with quality assurance teams, editors, and project managers to integrate feedback and meet client expectations.

• Project Management:

  Handle multiple concurrent projects while adhering to deadlines and platform-specific subtitle guidelines.

Requirements

• French Proficiency:

  Native or near-native fluency (C1/C2); strong understanding of regional variations and idiomatic usage.

• English Proficiency:

  Advanced comprehension of spoken and written English (C1/C2).

• Experience:

  1–2 years in subtitle translation/localization (English to French), with experience in subtitling tools and workflows.

• Tools:

  Familiarity with industry-standard subtitling software (e.g., Aegisub, Subtitle Edit, Ooona, etc.) and AI-assisted translation platforms.

• Skills:

  Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work with sensitive or varied media content.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field (with focus on French).
• Experience with localization for streaming platforms (e.g., Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+) and knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., SDH, closed captions).
