Founding Marketing Officer (FMO)

hands-on, execution-first role

Key Responsibilities

1. Founding Marketing Strategy & Vision

  • Define the companys

    brand positioning, messaging, and marketing roadmap

    .
  • Build a strong, differentiated brand in a competitive market.
  • Align marketing strategy with business goals and revenue targets.

2. Go-To-Market (GTM) & Launch Execution

  • Plan and execute

    city-wise and area-wise launch strategies

    .
  • Drive early traction through hyperlocal, digital, and on-ground campaigns.
  • Own launch campaigns, partnerships, and promotional strategies.

3. Customer Acquisition & Growth

  • Own

    user acquisition, retention, and engagement metrics

    .
  • Manage performance marketing across:
    • Google, Meta, app installs, local ads
  • Optimise CAC, LTV, funnel conversion, and ROI.
  • Design referral, loyalty, and repeat-order programs.

4. Brand, Content & Communication

  • Build brand identity, tone of voice, and storytelling.
  • Oversee content across:
    • App, website, social media, ads, PR, and offline assets
  • Manage influencers, local partnerships, and community marketing.

5. Data-Driven Marketing & Analytics

  • Set up dashboards and KPIs for all marketing activities.
  • Use insights to continuously improve campaigns and messaging.
  • Run A/B tests on creatives, offers, and funnels.

6. Team Building & Agency Management

  • Hire and manage the first marketing team (digital, content, design, growth).
  • Work with creative, media, and PR agencies as needed.
  • Build a high-ownership, execution-focused marketing culture.

7. Founder & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with the

    CEO, Product, Operations, and Technology teams

    .
  • Translate customer insights into product and growth improvements.
  • Present marketing strategy and results to investors and board members.

Required Skills & Experience

Marketing & Growth Expertise

  • Proven experience building brands or growth engines in

    startups or high-growth companies

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Performance marketing
    • App growth & ASO
    • CRM, retention & lifecycle marketing
  • Experience managing marketing budgets and ROI

Leadership & Founder Mindset

  • Strong ownership and execution bias
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and rapid changes
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills

Preferred Background

  • Experience in

    food delivery, hyperlocal, e-commerce, marketplace, or consumer tech

  • Previous role as

    FMO, Growth Head, or Marketing Lead

  • Experience scaling a brand from

    early traction to the growth stage
