Fire & Gas Detection & Firefighting Engineer

Design & Engineering

• Development and execution of Full engineering design of Fire & Gas (F&G) and Firefighting systems, including:

• fire detection and gas detection solutions
• Clean Agent, Water Mist, Sprinkler, Foam, Hydrant and Deluge systems

• Development and execution of Detailed Engineering Documentation:

• P&IDs and Cause & Effect Matrix (C&E) with detailed control logic and system interactions
• isometric drawings, piping routing, support details and material take-offs
• 2D layouts, installation plans, sections, and construction details
• wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and terminal drawings
• cable routing and cable tray layouts
• technical specifications, datasheets, design basis and project criteria

• Execution of engineering studies:

• hydraulic calculations for sprinkler, hydrant, foam, water mist and clean agent systems
• F&G mapping and detector coverage studies
• hazard assessment and area classification

• Development of System integration with:

• DCS

  ,

  ESD

  , PLCs, FACP and firefighting control panels
• automation logic and digital/analog signal interfaces.

• Definition of the overall system architecture for F&G and Firefighting systems, including:

• control panel hierarchy, network topology and communication strategy
• interaction between fire detection, gas detection and suppression systems
• interfaces with auxiliary systems (HVAC shutdown, damper control, power distribution, UPS)
• definition of redundancy levels, and fail-safe principles
• signal architecture to DCS/ESD and supervisory systems

• Preparation of functional architecture documents and control logic diagrams.

Compliance & Standards

• Technical verification of all engineering deliverables against project requirements and client specifications.

• Optional / Plus Knowledge of International Standards

Familiarity with international standards for Fire & Gas and Firefighting systems, including:

• NFPA (13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 72, 2001, etc.)
• IEC 61508 / 61511 (Functional Safety)
• API, ISO, EN, and applicable local regulations

Fire & Gas Panel Configuration (FAT Focus)

• Configuration of Fire & Gas Control Panels (FACP) and Firefighting panels in preparation for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
• Programming and setup of panel logic, input/output modules, relays, and alarm functions according to engineering design.
• Setting of alarm thresholds, timers, and signal routing for detection and suppression devices to ensure proper system behavior during FAT.
• Integration with DCS, ESD, PLCs, and supervisory systems and verification of signal exchange during FAT.
• Preparation of software configuration files and panel setup documentation to support FAT execution and traceability.
• Implementation of Cause & Effect (C&E) matrices and interlocks for fire, gas, and suppression events
• Review and verification of Material Take-Off (MTO) and panel components to ensure completeness before FAT.
• Identification and resolution of potential punch points or discrepancies during FAT execution.
• Execution of FAT test

Engineering Studies & Documentation

• Preparation of advanced engineering studies:
• Firewater Demand Calculation
• Hydraulic Network Study
• Detector Location & F&G Mapping Study
• Fire Protection Philosophy
• System logic documents and final C&E
• Deliverables issued across project stages:
• Basic Engineering, FEED, Detailed Engineering, As-Built documentation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in:

• Fire Protection & F&G Engineering / Instrumentation Engineering.

Experience

5–7 years

• Oil & Gas
• Petrochemical
• Power & Energy sectors

Skills

• Strong knowledge of NFPA, IEC and API standards
• Proficiency in:
• Updated Skills Section (with isometric software)
• AutoCAD
• Hydraulic calculation software
• F&G Mapping tools
• Isometric & Piping Design Software.
• Excellent analytical skills and strong ability to produce complete engineering deliverables.
• Firefigthing & F&G panel configuration

Preferred Certifications
