Fiber Optic Technician

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiber Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic systems. As a Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our fiber optic networks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cables in various settings including commercial, residential, and industrial environments.
• Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems using specialized equipment such as OTDR, power meters, and fusion splicers.
• Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to determine job specifications and requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Ensure all work complies with industry standards, safety protocols, and company policies.
• Collaborate with team members, clients, and contractors to complete projects efficiently and effectively.
• Assist in the planning and design of fiber optic network expansions and upgrades.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in fiber optic technology and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in fiber optics is preferred.
• Proven experience as a Fiber Technician or in a similar role.
• Proficiency with fiber optic testing and splicing equipment.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic networks, components, and installation techniques.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various environments, including outdoors and confined spaces.
• Physical ability to perform tasks that may include lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or Fiber Optic Installer (FOI).
• Experience with fiber optic network design and planning.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
