Fellowship in Robotic Colorectal Surgery

The Fellowship in Robotic Colorectal Surgery (Hospital-Based) is an advanced clinical training program designed to equip surgeons with expertise in robotic-assisted techniques for colorectal procedures. This fellowship offers structured, hands-on exposure to robotic surgical systems, perioperative decision-making, minimally invasive colorectal interventions, and comprehensive patient care under the guidance of experienced robotic colorectal surgeons.

Fellows will gain proficiency in preoperative planning, robotic console skills, intraoperative procedures, and postoperative care, enhancing clinical judgment and technical mastery in a high-acuity surgical environment.

Role & responsibilities:

• Participate in robotic-assisted colorectal surgical procedures under senior surgeon supervision
• Assist in preoperative assessment, surgical planning, and robotic setup
• Support port placement, docking, instrument selection, and console-based manipulation
• Assist in complex colorectal resections, anastomoses, and reconstruction using robotic technologies
• Monitor and document intraoperative findings, operative nuances, and patient responses
• Engage in postoperative care, complication surveillance, and recovery planning
• Participate in daily clinical rounds, multidisciplinary case discussions, and surgical meetings
• Maintain accurate patient records, procedure logs, and clinical documentation
• Attend simulation-based robotic skill sessions, workshops, and hands-on training
• Participate in academic activities including case reviews, journal clubs, and evidence-based learning
• Ensure adherence to sterile practices, patient safety protocols, and ethical clinical standards
• Collaborate with surgical teams including anesthesiology, nursing, and perioperative support staff

Preferred candidate profile:

• MS / DNB in General Surgery
• Prior exposure to colorectal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, or robotic platforms preferred
• Strong interest in robotic surgical techniques and colorectal care
• Excellent hand-eye coordination, technical aptitude, and rapid procedural learning
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating environment
• Good clinical judgment and willingness to learn advanced surgical protocols
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Commitment to professionalism, patient safety, and ethical care
• Enthusiasm for academic participation and continuous skill development
