Fabrics and Trims Head

As the Fabrics and Trims Head for a Fashion House in Okhla, New Delhi, your role is crucial in overseeing the sourcing, development, and management of all fabrics, trims, and surface materials needed for collections and production. Your responsibilities include: - Sourcing & Development: - Identify and procure fabrics, trims, laces, embellishments, and accessories based on design briefs and mood boards. - Collaborate with design and sampling teams to create new materials, dye lots, and finishes. - Maintain a strong network of mills, suppliers, and vendors locally and internationally. - Quality & Technical Evaluation: - Assess materials for texture, hand feel, shrinkage, GSM, fastness, and suitability for intended garments. - Conduct quality checks on incoming materials to ensure compliance with brand and buyer standards. - Coordinate testing for wash care, color fastness, and fabric performance if needed. - Inventory & Documentation: - Keep a systematic inventory of fabrics, trims, swatches, and vendor samples. - Monitor fabric consumption, wastage, and usage across sampling and production. - Develop and maintain a fabric/trim library for design and merchandising teams. - Coordination & Communication: - Act as a liaison between design, sampling, production, and vendors to guarantee timely material delivery. - Clearly communicate material specifications, approvals, and rejections to vendors. - Assist the sampling coordinator in ensuring fabric availability for sample deadlines. - Costing & Negotiation: - Negotiate prices, MOQs, and lead times with suppliers to meet target costing parameters. - Prepare comparative sheets and suggest sourcing options based on price, quality, and reliability. - Process & Compliance: - Ensure proper documentation of purchase orders, delivery challans, and approvals. - Maintain traceability of sustainable or certified materials when necessary (e.g., GOTS, OEKO-TEX). Your required skills and competencies include a deep understanding of textiles, trims, dyeing, and finishing processes, a keen eye for fabric aesthetics, strong vendor management and negotiation abilities, attention to detail, and familiarity with production timelines and costing parameters. To excel in this role, you should possess a Degree/Diploma in Textile Design, Fabric Technology, or Fashion Production, along with 4-8 years of experience in fabric sourcing and development, preferably in the luxury, prt, or export segment. Your experience should also demonstrate proficiency in managing both local and international suppliers.
