What would you do? The role involves end-to-end responsibility for managing electrical assets " focusing on transformers and substation equipment " from commissioning to lifecycle maintenance. The engineer ensures asset reliability, performance optimization, and compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
  
What are we looking for? 
Hands-on experience with transformer testing equipment (DGA kits, Tan Delta, SFRA, IR thermography). Knowledge of asset management systems (SAP PM, Maximo, or equivalent). Familiarity with IEC/IEEE standards related to transformers and substations. Understanding of SCADA and remote monitoring systems. Strong analytical and documentation skills. Good coordination and stakeholder management. Commitment to safety, quality, and reliability.  Relevant experience in transformer maintenance, substation commissioning, or electrical asset management (utility or EPC sector). 
 Roles and Responsibilities: 1. Asset Management Develop and implement asset management strategies for transformers, switchgear, and substation systems. Maintain detailed asset health data, maintenance history, and performance reports. Conduct condition monitoring, diagnostics, and life assessment studies using tools such as DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis), TAN, and IR thermography. Support asset replacement, refurbishment, and upgrade planning based on health indices. Ensure compliance with ISO 55000 standards or equivalent asset management frameworks.2. Site Commissioning Plan and execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for transformers, breakers, and other electrical equipment. Prepare commissioning procedures, checklists, and test protocols. Supervise testing activities such as ratio tests, winding resistance, insulation resistance, and SFRA. Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and utility teams to ensure successful energization. Document commissioning reports and maintain traceability of results.3. Transformer Maintenance Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance of power and distribution transformers. Diagnose faults through oil testing, electrical testing, and on-site inspection. Coordinate oil filtration, bushing replacement, and tap changer maintenance. Manage breakdown maintenance and root cause analysis of failures. Implement maintenance management systems (CMMS or EAM tools such as SAP PM or Maximo).4. Safety & Compliance Ensure adherence to safety protocols and statutory UK regulations  Conduct toolbox talks, job safety analysis, and permit-to-work reviews. Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.5. Continuous Improvement & Reporting Analyze reliability and performance data to identify trends and optimization opportunities. Support digital initiatives such as condition monitoring dashboards and asset digital twins. Provide inputs for budgeting, cost forecasting, and asset life-cycle costing. Train site teams and field engineers on maintenance and diagnostic best practices.
