Engineering Manager, Platform

As an Engineering Manager, Platform at Symphony Technology Group (STG) Labs India, your role involves a mix of strategy and execution. You will lead the Platform Engineering team, setting direction, building a strong team, and ensuring a healthy team culture. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be hands-on with technology by diving into code or architecture when necessary. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead People: Recruit, mentor, and grow a diverse team of platform engineers. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. - Coach Technically: Provide hands-on guidance in design, architecture, and implementation. Lead by example through direct technical contribution. - Plan & Execute: Drive critical initiatives from idea to delivery, balancing long-term platform health with short-term needs for reliable, high-quality outcomes. - Shape Vision: Define and evolve platform capabilities to support future growth and keep the roadmap aligned with company goals. - Build Operational Excellence: Design and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure systems using metrics and postmortems to raise the bar continuously. - Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product, Design, Security, and other Engineering teams to embed platform thinking into every stage of development. - Architect for the Future: Set the technical North Star and guide design choices for key services and components. **Qualifications Required:** - 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3-5 years in engineering management. - Proven player-coach track record: able to lead teams while making hands-on contributions to code, architecture, or design. - Technical expertise in platform domains such as authentication, authorization, identity management, and multi-channel notifications. - Experience designing and running distributed systems and multi-tenant SaaS platforms on modern cloud providers. - Hands-on expertise across the stack, including designing microservices, building frontends, managing data, scaling, and implementing observability. - History of recruiting and retaining great engineers, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture. - Operational mindset with strong communication and influencing skills to translate technical tradeoffs into clear options for business partners. - Comfort with on-call participation to ensure business-critical systems receive timely attention.
