Are you ready to power the world's connections Kong's API Management suite consists of several products including the Kong Enterprise Gateway, the Kong AI Gateway, and the Konnect SaaS platform. These products enable organizations across various industries to efficiently manage and operate their APIs in a secure manner, ensuring high throughput and reliability. We are currently seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee teams working on API Ops, LLM Ops, and the UI requirements of our product portfolio. The API Ops team is responsible for managing the deck Open Source command line interface (CLI) to all Kong runtimes, as well as providing Terraform support for the Kong Gateway, which are essential tools for operating Kong's products in production environments. The LLM Ops team is a newly formed team that will collaborate with other engineering teams at Kong to work with Large Language Models (LLMs) and introduce new features into our product range. The UI team focuses on developing core features for Kong's SaaS platform. This leadership opportunity is based in Bangalore, India and involves a hybrid work model with three days in the office and two days working from home. As a leader, you will be expected to effectively utilize your time with the team and drive efficient outcomes. What You'll Do: - Build and lead high-performing engineering teams that consistently deliver results. - Attract, mentor, and retain top engineering talent, promoting growth and development within Kong's engineering organization. - Ensure the end-to-end technical success of your teams, maintaining industry-leading security, quality, performance, and reliability standards. - Design and operate software systems to achieve a 99.99% SLA or higher reliability. - Shape the technical direction for the API Ops and LLM Ops teams by fostering innovation. - Collaborate closely with product leadership to define strategy, roadmap, and objectives for managed gateways, aligning engineering efforts with business goals. - Manage multiple agile workstreams concurrently to ensure timely project execution. - Engage directly with customers and field teams to gather feedback on use cases, pain points, and opportunities for innovation, incorporating this feedback into product enhancements. - Take ownership of key objectives that drive business outcomes, contributing to enhanced revenue growth for Kong. What You'll Bring: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. - 4+ years of experience in engineering management, building and leading high-performing teams. - 5+ years of experience in SaaS development, with a focus on operating software with 99.99% reliability or higher. - Strong expertise in networking concepts, particularly OSI Layer 4 (Transport) and Layer 7 (Application) protocols, and public cloud network architectures. - Proven track record of successfully launching new SaaS offerings. - Hands-on experience in designing, prototyping, building, debugging, and operating microservices architectures and distributed systems. - Proficiency in monitoring and observability practices to ensure high availability, resilience, and performance of services. - Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
