Engineering Director

As the Director of Software Engineering at American Express, you will play a crucial role in leading the development of next-generation distributed platforms to support the next generation of customers. Your responsibilities will include driving innovation, managing product development teams, and ensuring continuous engineering improvement within a fast-paced, agile environment. Your key responsibilities will include: - Driving innovation and managing product development teams within a fast-paced, agile environment. - Cultivating an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics. - Identifying and implementing strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled workforce. - Managing and/or leading software development teams to achieve goals and objectives. - Engaging in hands-on design and ensuring alignment of strategy with software engineers and architects. - Collaborating with stakeholders to drive change required to execute product roadmaps. - Enabling integrated teams to deliver technology solutions in support of key product initiatives. - Prioritizing, planning, and executing the development schedule for major product releases. - Communicating strategy direction and changes to senior leaders. Qualifications required for this role: - Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or related experience with an advanced degree preferred. - 13+ years of experience managing agile software engineering teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. - Expertise in building web applications using Java 11, Javascript, React JS, Node JS, Springboot, Spring, Kafka, Redis, etc. - Extensive hands-on experience building distributed applications and managing large-scale enterprise applications. - Experience managing large engineering teams using a servant leadership mindset. - Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization.
