Role Overview: As an Engineer, IT Software at American Airlines, you will be part of a diverse, high-performing team dedicated to technical excellence. Key Responsibilities: - Write, test, and document technical work products (e.g., code, scripts, processes) according to organizational standards and practices - Devote time to raising the quality and craftsmanship of products and systems - Conduct root cause analysis to identify domain level problems and prescribe action items to mitigate - Design self-contained systems within a team's domain and lead implementations of significant capabilities in existing systems - Coach team members in techniques to improve reliability, resiliency, security, and performance - Decompose intricate designs into implementations that can be effectively built and maintained by less experienced engineers - Anticipate trouble areas in systems under development and guide the team in instrumentation practices for observability and supportability - Define test suites and instrumentation to ensure targets for latency and availability are consistently met in production - Lead by example in prioritizing the closure of open vulnerabilities - Evaluate potential attack surfaces in systems under development, identify best practices to mitigate, and guide teams in their implementation - Collaborate with global teams to deliver high-value work quickly - Ensure reuse is a first-class consideration in all team implementations and advocate for broad reusability - Mentor teammates and guide them along needed learning journeys - Identify opportunities for introducing new approaches to problems in the environment Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS / MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience / training - 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale solutions in production environments Additional Company Details: American Airlines, along with its American Eagle regional partners, offers thousands of flights daily to more than 350 destinations in over 60 countries.
