The Commerce Development Manager will play a critical role in guiding architecture and design decisions, ensuring best practices are followed, mentoring team members, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. This is both a technical and people leadership position, ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, strategy, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and coach a team of software developers and technical leads, fostering autonomy, growth, and accountability.
• Build, scale, and retain high-performing development teams with the right blend of skills and experience.
• Empower team members to grow professionally through tailored development plans, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Remove roadblocks, streamline processes, and shield teams from distractions to maximize delivery potential.
• Take ownership of team engagement and ensure members understand how they contribute to the companys vision and goals.
• Act as an escalation point for client architectural and technical challenges.
• Lead recruiting efforts, interview, and onboard top technical talent.
• Promote a collaborative culture, encouraging open discussion while being able to make decisive recommendations when necessary.

Technical Strategy & Delivery

• Oversee the design, architecture, and delivery of enterprise-level e-commerce solutions on modern commerce platforms, such as Shopify, VTEX, commercetools, and SAP Commerce.
• Provide technical leadership in integration projects leveraging cloud services like AWS, serverless architectures, APIs, and Spring Boot framework.
• Translate high-level requirements into actionable technical tasks, estimates, and resource plans.
• Guide the team through complex technical challenges and ensure adherence to architectural guidelines and best practices.
• Ensure all solutions are scalable, secure, and optimized for high availability and low latency.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging commerce technologies, and software engineering best practices, and proactively apply them to ongoing projects.

Project & Process Management

• Ensure consistent value delivery through agile practices (SAFe methodology).
• Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining oversight of critical project milestones.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, customers, and other stakeholders, ensuring technical solutions align with business needs.
• Collaborate with other managers and leaders to drive key priorities forward across the organization.
• Monitor and manage costs related to team activities and project execution.
• Assess new technologies and products, encouraging adoption of the latest industry standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years in software development and at least 3 years in a senior software delivery or development management role, ideally in the e-commerce space.
• Proven experience leading and successfully delivering multiple large-scale e-commerce implementations on platforms such as Shopify, VTEX, commercetools, and SAP Commerce.
• Strong hands-on technical background, with expertise in system integrations, cloud services like AWS, and Spring Boot framework.
• Deep understanding of commerce architectures, APIs, and integrations with enterprise systems.
• Hands-on coding and debugging skills in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar.
• Experience running mission-critical systems requiring high availability, scalability, and low latency.
• Demonstrated ability to design and oversee technical architectures for enterprise solutions.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of multiple commerce platforms and integration patterns.
• Strong leadership skills, including team building, coaching, influencing, and delegation.
