Director Communications

Role Summary

The Director Communications will oversee all internal and external communications, brand and media relations, digital outreach, and stakeholder engagement. The role also includes building and leading a communications team to ensure effective amplification of the University's brand and values across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the University's vision and objectives.
• Oversee internal communications for clarity, consistency, and timely dissemination of information.
• Lead external communications, including media relations, press releases, interviews, and crisis communication.
• Manage the University's digital presence (social media, newsletters, blogs, multimedia). Use analytics to evaluate impact.
• Maintain and update the University's website; coordinate the publication of the Annual Report.
• Coordinate design, visuals, and AV content; collaborate with creative professionals to produce high-quality materials.
• Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels, publications, and events.
• Design and implement communication plans for events, seminars, conferences, and initiatives across departments.
• Act as spokesperson/point of contact with media and other stakeholders.
• Build and lead the communications/external relations teamrecruit, mentor, define roles, and manage workflows.
• Manage budgets and resources for communication activities.
• Ensure compliance with institutional, legal, and ethical guidelines, including copyright, data protection, and accessibility standards.

Essential Criteria

• Master's degree in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
• 57 years of progressive experience in communications/media/brand/PR roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity preferred.
• Experience in higher education institutions or academic/research environments will be an added advantage.
  

Essential Competencies

• Strong strategic thinking: ability to translate long-term institutional goals into actionable communication plans.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills across multiple formats (press, digital, reports, speeches).
• Experience in visual/multimedia content creation or management.
• Digital literacy: social media, CMS, website administration, analytics.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, including crisis communication.
• High ethical standards, brand integrity, and sensitivity to institutional values.
  

Remuneration

commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Selection Process

1. Stage 1:
