Job Description

Appropriate candidate is an expert organic chemist. Principal responsibility is oversight and execution of lab requirements of utilities, plant and R&D functions.
Experience in leading and training and development of a lab team to ensure consistent and accurate results on an ongoing, daily basis is preferred.
Experience in Naphthalene based chemistry preferred. Experience in unit processes such as sulfonation, high temperature alkali fusion, distillation, autoclave carboxylation, solvent based purification/ refining/ recovery preferred.
Knowledge of a variety of analytical methods, TLC, HPLC and GC (either in-house or through identification and monitoring of reputable vendors) to monitor reaction processes and Interpretation of analytical results
Oversight of Analytical Quality Testing and Reporting including daily testing for raw materials and finished products. Evaluation of raw material quality based on long-term assessment of relationship with finished product quality.
Conduct extremely detailed literature searches for selected targets and goals, or to determine specific conditions for compounds and reactions. Keep abreast of current scientific literature and discuss new findings with colleagues.
Identification of shortcomings in existing plant processes along with detailed root cause analysis, solution hypothesis conception and testing, solution finalization, feasibility and economic studies, assistance in solution implementation on commercial scale.
Well versed with handling complex chemical reactions in lab, lab safety, handling of reagents, catalyst, hazardous chemicals, residues and process wastes.
