Job Description

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer (Type Testing) will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing type testing activities for medium and high-voltage electrical disconnectors and circuit breakers. The role involves close interaction with product design, testing laboratories, certification agencies, and internal quality and production teams to ensure compliance with national and international standards such as IEC, IS, and ANSI.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Type Testing Coordination

  • Plan, schedule, and execute

    type testing

    for electrical disconnectors and circuit breakers at

    national and international laboratories

    (e.g., CPRI, KEMA, CESI, VEIKI, etc.).
  • Prepare and review

    type test documentation

    , including test procedures, technical datasheets, and quality plans.
  • Coordinate with external test labs for logistics, sample preparation, and test execution.
  • Ensure all tests are conducted as per relevant standards (e.g.,

    IEC 62271 series

    etc.).

2. Design and Documentation

  • Support the

    product design team

    in incorporating test requirements into product designs.
  • Review

    engineering drawings

    ,

    BOMs

    , and

    technical specifications

    for type test readiness.
  • Analyze type test results and prepare

    technical reports

    for internal approval and certification submission.
  • Recommend design modifications or material improvements based on test outcomes.

3. Standards and Compliance

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable

    IEC, IS, and ANSI standards

    related to switchgear equipment
  • Ensure design compliance with performance, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Support product certification activities with testing authorities and third-party agencies.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain a database of test results, performance benchmarks, and lessons learned.
  • Propose and implement improvements to design validation and test processes.
  • Support R&D initiatives to enhance reliability, cost-efficiency, and test success rates.

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.)

    from a recognized university or institution.

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years

    of relevant experience in:
    • Type testing of

      high-voltage/medium-voltage switchgear

      (disconnectors, circuit breakers, earthing switches, etc.).
    • Coordinating and executing tests at

      national and international test laboratories

      .
    • Preparation of type test documentation and analysis of test reports.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of

    electrical and mechanical design principles

    for switchgear equipment.
  • Knowledge of relevant

    IEC/IS standards

    (IEC 62271 series, IS 9921, IS 13118, etc.).
  • Familiarity with

    type test procedures

    (dielectric, short-circuit, temperature rise, mechanical endurance, etc.).
  • Experience with

    AutoCAD, SolidWorks

    , or equivalent design tools.
  • Proficiency in

    MS Office

    and

    technical documentation

    .

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Willingness to travel for type testing and vendor coordination.
