Database Architect

Job Summary: We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Database Architect to design, develop, and optimize robust, scalable, and secure database solutions that support our growing business needs. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data modelling, performance tuning, and database securityalong with a hands-on approach to integrating database systems with modern development pipelines. This is a critical role that collaborates closely with software development, DevOps, and data engineering teams to ensure the reliability, availability, and integrity of enterprise data systems. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement scalable and secure database architectures to support complex application ecosystems. Create and maintain logical and physical data models aligned with business requirements and system designs. Ensure high performance, availability, and security of production and development databases. Perform capacity planning, implement backup and recovery strategies, and maintain robust disaster recovery plans. Optimize SQL queries, indexes, and stored procedures to enhance database performance and responsiveness. Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to embed database systems into CI/CD pipelines for streamlined deployments. Maintain comprehensive database documentation, including ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and design specifications. Evaluate and recommend emerging database technologies, tools, and platforms to improve infrastructure and processes. Define and enforce database standards, governance, and best practices across environments. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues, conducting root cause analysis when needed. Support data-related development initiatives by ensuring adherence to architecture guidelines and data integrity. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 7+ years of hands-on experience in database architecture, design, and implementation. Strong expertise in at least one RDBMS such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. Proficiency in T-SQL, PL/SQL, or relevant SQL dialects. Experience with data modeling tools such as Erwin, DBDesigner, or similar. Deep understanding of database design principles including normalization, denormalization, indexing, partitioning, and replication. Familiarity with cloud-based database services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or GCP Cloud SQL. Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and tools is a plus (e.g., Talend, Apache Nifi, Informatica). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to translate business needs into technical solutions. Excellent communication and documentation skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
