Database Architect

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, implement, manage, and monitor relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) database platforms.
• Research network configurations, load balancing, and other aspects of data transport to maximize database performance.
• Help engineering teams design optimal databases using normalization, data type selection, constraints, partitioning, and schema evolution for both SQL and NoSQL systems.
• Create and optimize data models and scripts to automate database workflows and ETL processes.
• Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating client operations, applications, and programming.
• Review expensive queries and work with users to encourage use of more efficient data access patterns/queries.
• Design resilient architecture to ensure minimal interruption to business in case of failure, leveraging replication and sharding strategies.
• Set standards for database operations, programming, query processes, and security across PostgreSQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra), and modern database frameworks.
• Design database backup and recovery processes and implement/monitor in coordination with DBA group.
• Train engineers to design databases for maximizing performance while minimizing data inconsistencies and operational failures.
• Study storage performance characteristics, alternative technologies, configuration options in the context of relational and non-relational databases.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a Database Architect.
• Proficiency in AWS and AWS MySQL ecosystem, with strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and other modern relational databases.
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB, and understanding of their use cases.
• Familiarity with modern database frameworks (e.g., Prisma, TypeORM, Hibernate, Sequelize) and event-driven architectures.
• Experience analyzing business requirements, designing database systems, and developing data models.
• Knowledge of database design best practices for SQL and NoSQL systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to coordinate and work with a dynamic team and multiple stakeholders.
• Passionate about technology and delivering solutions in integrated data environments.
• Current on event processing, Data API, and emerging data technologies.
