Database Administrator

Job Purpose

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in

  monitoring PostgreSQL instances

  and reporting any irregularities.
• Support

  database backup and replication

  activities as per documented procedures.
• Learn to

  monitor performance

  and provide basic tuning suggestions.
• Follow up on and escalate any

  critical production issues

  to senior DBAs.
• Assist in

  managing user accounts and permissions

  under supervision.
• Learn to use PostgreSQL tools like

  psql

  and

  pgAdmin

  for day-to-day tasks.
• Participate in

  database software installation

  on Linux and Windows with guidance.
• Support

  scheduled maintenance tasks

  such as index reindexing, vacuuming, and statistics updates.
• Assist in

  query analysis

  using tools such as EXPLAIN for performance review.
• Gain exposure to

  backup & recovery tools

  (pg_dump, WAL archiving, Point-in-Time Recovery).
• Help in

  monitoring logs

  and scheduled jobs for potential issues.
• Learn about

  PostgreSQL High Availability

  and replication concepts.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining

  documentation

  for database processes.
• Stay updated with

  basic PostgreSQL security updates

  and community news.

Skills Required

• Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
• Eagerness to learn

  PostgreSQL architecture

  and administration.
• Familiarity with

  Linux or Windows command-line basics

  .
• Interest in learning

  shell scripting

  (Linux) or

  PowerShell

  (Windows).
• Basic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and

  work in a team environment

• Strong attention to detail and willingness to document work.

Preferred (Good to Have)

• Exposure to

  PostgreSQL

  through academic projects or internships.
• Knowledge of basic networking concepts (IP, ports, firewalls).
