Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a

highly motivated entry-level Diagnostic Tuner

with a foundational understanding of internal combustion (IC) engine subsystems and a strong interest in automotive diagnostics. In this role, you will support the calibration and validation of diagnostic functions related to engine control units (ECUs), assist in ensuring compliance with On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) standards, and contribute to engine testing and development activities. Basic knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and academic or project-based exposure to engine systems and diagnostics are expected. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to begin a career in powertrain diagnostics and calibration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and calibrate diagnostic strategies for IC engine subsystems (air path, fuel system, exhaust, combustion, etc.).
  • Perform root cause analysis and refine diagnostic monitors based on test data and failure analysis.
  • Support engine testing in dyno and vehicle environments, including setup, execution, and data analysis.
  • Ensure diagnostic readiness and compliance with global OBD regulations (OBD-II, EOBD, BS-VI, etc.).
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm understanding, data analysis, and basic model-based development tasks.
  • Collaborate with calibration engineers, controls developers, and test engineers to optimize diagnostic performance.
  • Maintain documentation and participate in design reviews and issue resolution processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics , Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of IC engine components and subsystems (air handling, fuel injection, exhaust, sensors, actuators, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with engine or vehicle testing, preferably in a diagnostic or calibration role.
  • Good understanding of OBD system design, fault detection logic, and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink for data processing and model understanding.
  • Familiarity with ECU calibration tools such as INCA, ETAS, CANape, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with model-based development or software-in-the-loop (SIL/HIL) testing.
  • Knowledge of CAN communication, UDS protocols, and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) architecture.
  • Exposure to emission regulations and compliance testing procedures.
  • Understanding of vehicle networking and data logging tools.
