Cassandra Database Specialist (Migration & Performance Tuning)

Role Overview:

Cassandra Database Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and manage Cassandra clusters

  hosted on virtual machines (setup, upgrades, replication tuning, nodetool operations).
• Lead

  Cassandra migration projects

  from AWS to Azure, ensuring zero or minimal downtime.
• Configure new Cassandra clusters in Azure, with data modeling, keyspace planning and tuning based on throughput needs.
• Create and implement

  backup, DR and failover

  strategies for Cassandra databases.
• Work on

  performance tuning

  (GC tuning, JVM parameters, compaction, read/write latency analysis).
• Automate cluster provisioning and maintenance using

  Ansible, Shell scripts, Terraform

  .
• Implement monitoring and alerting via Prometheus, Grafana, or other tools for proactive issue detection.
• Secure Cassandra environments with proper

  access control, encryption at rest/in-transit

  , and audit logs.
• Collaborate with application and DevOps teams to address Cassandra query performance and data consistency issues.
• Optional: PostgreSQL Flexible Server migration (AWS RDS to Azure) — good to have but not mandatory.
  

Mandatory Skills (Must Have):

• Core Cassandra DBA

  experience (setup, cluster management, node addition, repair, performance tuning)

• Migration from AWS-hosted Cassandra to Azure-based Cassandra clusters

• Linux administration and Shell Scripting

• Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting

  for high-availability systems

• Ansible Automation

  for DB operations

Good to Have:

• PostgreSQL DBA or Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server knowledge
• Terraform, Jenkins, Bash/Python scripting
• Cloud migrations (RDS to Azure or any cloud DB migration)
• Azure, AWS or Cassandra certification
  

Candidate Profile:

• 6–9 years overall experience with at least

  4+ years hands-on with Cassandra

  .
• Experience in handling highly available, large-scale Cassandra environments.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and documentation skills.
• Capable of acting as

  SPOC for all Cassandra database operations

  and stakeholder communication.
