Job Description

Job Title: CAD Engineer - Lithium Battery Systems

Job Summary:

CAD Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design 2D and 3D CAD models of battery enclosures, modules, and components using software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and GD&T annotations.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineers to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Support rapid prototyping, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and DFA (Design for Assembly) efforts.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis, interference checks, and material selection.
  • Revise designs based on feedback from testing, manufacturing, or suppliers.
  • Maintain document control and version management using PLM or PDM systems.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure technical drawings meet manufacturing standards and specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input during product development stages.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a CAD Engineer, preferably in energy storage, EV, or automotive sectors.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, CNC machining, etc.).
  • Knowledge of thermal management and structural design related to battery packs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery architecture, BMS housing, and safety standards (UL, IEC, ISO).
  • Experience with PLM/PDM tools (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, SolidWorks PDM).
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills (Optional):

  • Experience in battery pack design or EV powertrain components.
  • Familiarity with thermal analysis or structural FEA tools (e.g., Ansys, COMSOL).
  • Understanding of battery certification and regulatory requirements (e.g., UN 38.3, UL 2580).
  • Basic electrical or PCB layout understanding is a plus.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office, lab, and occasional factory floor environments.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers or manufacturing partners may be required.
