Role & responsibilities

A. Boiler Operations (Specific to Feed Plant)

  • Operate solid-fuel/biomass/coal-fired boilers to supply continuous steam for

    pellet mills, conditioners, and batch cooking systems

    .
  • Maintain stable steam pressure (usually 812 kg/cm based on plant requirement) to avoid

    pellet quality issues (PDI, hardness, moisture)

    .
  • Monitor steam lines going to

    Conditioners, Palletizers, and Dryer Sections

    .

B. Regular Monitoring & Readings

  • Check and log:
    • Steam pressure
    • Steam temperature
    • Water level
    • TDS levels
    • Feed water pump operation
    • Fuel feeding & grate condition
  • Maintain hourly log sheets for audit (production/maintenance).

C. Fuel & Water Management

  • Manage fuel stock (coal/briquettes/husk) as per steam demand from pellet plant.
  • Ensure clean, soft water for the boilercoordinate for

    RO/Softener system checks

    .
  • Perform blowdown operations to maintain TDS within permissible limits.

D. Preventive Maintenance

  • Clean ash, soot, and tubes regularly for optimum heat transfer.
  • Report abnormalities like pressure fluctuations, leakages, vibrations, or pump failure.
  • Assist in shutdown maintenance during pellet mill servicing or annual boiler inspection.

E. Safety, Statutory & Compliance

  • Strictly follow all safety norms as per

    Boilers Act & State Boiler Rules

    .
  • Maintain records for boiler certificates, insurance, and renewals.
  • Ensure safe operation of:
    • Safety valves
    • Pressure gauges
    • Water level indicators
    • Steam traps
    • Feed pumps
  • Use PPE at all times (gloves, helmet, face shield, shoes).

F. Coordination

  • Coordinate with:
    • Production Team

      to match steam requirement for pellet quality.
    • Maintenance Team

      for breakdowns and routine checks.
    • Store Department

      for fuel, chemicals, and spares.
  • Support energy-saving initiatives (fuel consumption optimization).

G. Documentation

Maintain:

  • Boiler logbook
  • Fuel consumption register
  • Water quality record
  • Breakdowns & maintenance log
  • Daily steam generation report
  • Safety checklist

Qualification & Experience

  • ITI (Fitter/Electrician) or equivalent.
  • Must have

    1st Class or 2nd Class Boiler Attendant Certificate

    .
  • Minimum

    25 years

    experience in cattle feed/food processing/agro-based industry boilers.
