Blood Bank Technician

Responsibilities Donor Management

Assists in donor motivation.
Performs pre donation donor screening.Testing apheresis donors.Identifies and communicates any abnormal pre donation tests reports to MO.Performs phlebotomy and related blood donation activities.Performs apheresis procedures.Works in the team of donor management.Testing

Understands blood bank technology including donor screening, blood grouping, cross matching, IH testing, TTI screening, QC testing.
Organize work by matching blood requests with test tube labelling; sorting samples; checking labelling; logging samples; cross matching and reserving units ready for issue, keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.Safe disposal of TTI reactive units as per BMW regulation.Component Management

Performs blood component separation, labelling, quality control of blood components produced.
Performs special procedures, leukoreduction, saline washing, component pooling, arranging components FIFO wise.Designated technicians to perform irradiation of blood components.Administrative/ Program management/ Regulatory Aspects

Perform duties as assigned by the Blood Center Medical Officer or Technical Supervisor.
Performs inventory and blood and blood components stock management.Performs all activities & records to be maintained as per relevant SOP & D&C act.Documents all the necessary information in the required blood bank records in the respective work area.Assists technical supervisor to prepare reports for various regulatory and management authorities.Maintains donor/patient confidence by keeping blood center information confidential.Quality assurance

Prepares equipment technical SOPs and reading manuals provided by manufacturer.
Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols.Perform & maintain records of QC procedures related to reagent, kits & equipment.Training

Responsible for in house staff training.
Clinical Services

Communication with clinicians and their team members regarding blood requests, transfusion consents, reservation of blood, issue of blood, transfusion monitoring, adverse event management, etc.
Ensures the issue of correctly prescribed and labelled blood components / units for patient care.Assisting patient relatives/hospital staff such that blood reaches in time and in transportation related issues.Biosafety and Infection Control

Ensures Universal precautions are strictly followed.
Ensures BMW Management.Follows infection control practices.Reports To:Technical Supervisor in Blood Center
