Blood Bank Technician

Role Overview: You will be responsible for receiving and processing specimens, interpreting and reporting results, maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, performing quality control procedures, and assisting in various laboratory activities to ensure smooth operations in the field of transfusion medicine. Your role will also involve coordinating with the technical supervisor and consultant to uphold quality assurance, laboratory safety, and accreditation standards. Key Responsibilities: - Receive and process specimens, including quality control specimens. - Interpret and report results as necessary, dispatching reports to the designated area. - Archive and discard specimens according to protocol. - Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, perform cleaning, maintenance, and calibration on laboratory equipment. - Implement and maintain quality control programs, ensuring compliance with regulations. - Report equipment malfunctions to the consultant and take proactive steps to address them. - Assist in record-keeping, archiving, and document management in alignment with guidelines. - Conduct stock checking, inventory control, and indent procedures. - Learn new techniques in the field of transfusion medicine to enhance skills and knowledge. - Keep all records updated and authenticated by the consultant transfusion medicine. - Monitor reagents for expiry limits and ensure appropriate disposal when necessary. - Participate in continuous monitoring for quality assurance, laboratory safety, and accreditation compliance. - Follow health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. - Coordinate with the technical supervisor to ensure the blood bank is prepared for audits by the FDA. - Assist the consultant in daily blood bank activities as directed.
