Bioprocess Engineer

You will lead the development of an algae-based biorefinery operation, focusing on transforming carbon-captured biomass into high-value lipids and pigments. Your responsibilities will include scaling extraction processes from the lab to commercial pilot plant and designing the integrated biorefinery infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: - Design and commission pilot-scale extraction systems for algae lipids and pigments. - Optimize multi-product biorefinery processes for maximum value extraction. - Establish pharmaceutical and food-grade quality standards. - Scale laboratory processes to commercial pilot operations. Technical Leadership: - Lead biorefinery facility design and equipment selection. - Develop SOPs, safety protocols, and regulatory documentation. - Coordinate with carbon capture teams on biomass specifications. - Manage cross-functional projects from R&D to operations. Innovation & Optimization: - Implement continuous improvement for extraction efficiency. - Validate process economics for premium biochemical products. - Drive sustainable bioprocessing technology development. - Support technology transfer from research partnerships. Required Qualifications: Education & Experience: - M.Tech/MS in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field. - 5-8 years in bioprocess engineering with natural product extraction. - Proven pilot plant design and commissioning experience. Technical Skills: - Lipid and pigment extraction technologies. - Process scale-up and optimization. - Analytical methods and quality control. - Process automation and control systems. - Regulatory compliance (GMP, food safety). Preferred: - Algae/microalgae processing experience. - Biorefinery or multi-product extraction background. - Project management of capital projects. - Natural products or biotechnology industry experience.
