Backend Engineer (CORE team, equity-only)

We’re seeking a Backend Engineer (Equity based / Core Team) to join our rapidly growing cybersecurity startup. This is a remote role focused on maintaining, scaling, and optimizing our backend infrastructure. The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where every commit truly matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and scale existing APIs and backend services.
• Dockerize applications for development and production environments.
• Implement and enhance VPN and networking solutions using Headscale / WireGuard.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO to integrate the backend with a Next.js frontend.
• Optimize Ubuntu 22.04 servers for scalability, load balancing, and efficiency.
• Ensure top-notch code quality, CI/CD pipelines, and adherence to security best practices.
• Mentor junior developers or interns, fostering technical growth within the team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading or contributing to backend engineering in startups or fast-paced environments.
• Strong knowledge of Flask, Docker, and Linux (Ubuntu 22.04).
• Experience with Headscale / WireGuard networking setups.
• Understanding of RESTful API design, authentication, and database schema planning.
• Working knowledge of Next.js integration is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness under constraints.
• Passion for cybersecurity, performance optimization, and scalable architecture.

Bonus Points:

• Experience deploying or managing IPv6-only servers (along with temp IPv4 routes).
• Familiarity with cloud or hybrid server environments.
• Prior experience connecting backend systems with modern frontend frameworks.
