Job Description

As an Associate or Senior Editor at Nature Communications focusing on metabolism, hepatology, and nephrology, you will be part of the leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality scientific research. If you have a passion for science that goes beyond the laboratory and enjoy exploring research outside your primary area of expertise, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge in the natural sciences. Your primary responsibilities will include handling original research papers, collaborating with fellow editors throughout the editorial process, making informed decisions on manuscript submissions based on expert feedback, and defining the representation of your subject within the journal. You will engage extensively with editors from other Nature journals and experts in the global scientific community, attend conferences, visit research institutions, commission and edit reviews, and write editorials to enhance the journal's impact and reach. To qualify for this position, you should hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field such as metabolism, hepatology, or nephrology, along with substantial research experience. A keen understanding of recent trends and advancements in the field is crucial, as is a genuine enthusiasm for scientific discovery and a willingness to broaden your knowledge beyond your specific area of expertise. Strong communication skills, fluency in English (both written and spoken), and the ability to critically evaluate research submissions across various disciplines are essential. While prior editorial experience is not mandatory, candidates with a robust editorial background are encouraged to apply and may be considered for Senior Editor roles. Successful candidates will report to a Chief Editor within the health and clinical sciences division at Nature Communications, with the opportunity to work from one of our global offices in Shanghai, New York, or Pune. To apply for this position, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in the role and indicating your preferred office location. We value diversity and inclusivity at Springer Nature, striving to create an environment where all individuals are respected, empowered, and can bring their unique perspectives to the table. US employees are entitled to a range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, tuition assistance, paid time off, retirement savings plans, and more. The annualized base salary for this role ranges from $74,000 for Associate Editors to $91,000 for Senior Editors. Candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the closing date for applications is October 11th, 2024.
