Job Description

Teaching

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in psychology, which may include general psychology, research methods, statistics, and specialized topics based on expertise (e.g., clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, etc.).
  • Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments that align with departmental goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in academic and career planning.
  • Supervise student research projects and internships as part of the department’s academic program.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that promotes student participation and critical thinking.

Research

  • Develop and maintain an active, independent research program in psychology, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
  • Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
  • Seek external funding opportunities (e.g., grants) to support research activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and across the university on interdisciplinary research projects.

Service

  • Participate in departmental and university service, including faculty meetings, committee work, and faculty governance.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the psychology curriculum.
  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current with trends and advancements in psychology.
  • Serve as a resource for students, providing academic guidance and career advice.
  • Support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the department.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology or a related field (must be completed by the time of appointment).
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • A well-defined research agenda and evidence of scholarly activity (e.g., publications, presentations, or research grants).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an academic environment and to contribute to a culture of inclusion and diversity.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching a wide range of psychology courses.
  • Expertise in a specific area of psychology that complements the department’s existing strengths (e.g., clinical psychology, neuroscience, behavioral psychology, etc.).
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • A record of external funding or the potential to secure grants for research.
