Assistant Manager - Coating QC Lab

Role & responsibilities

• Conduct inspection of bare and blasted pipes for surface roughness, salt contamination, cleanliness, dust level, and conductivity.
• Monitor in-process and post-coating application parameters substrate temperature, ambient conditions, line speed, quenching time, DFT (Dry Film Thickness), cutback, and overall visual inspection.
• Perform and monitor online and offline testing, including holiday test, bond strength test, impact test, etc.
• Prepare detailed inspection and testing records.
• Interface with foreign clients/delegates, third-party inspection agencies, and external auditors during plant visits and inspections.
• Participate in pre-production meetings and customer audits.
• Coordinate with departments such as QA, Production, Maintenance, and Workshop to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of quality issues.
• Review incoming raw material test certificates (e.g., PE, PP, PU, adhesives, epoxy, paint, grit) in line with QAP and relevant codes (ASTM, ISO, DIN, CSA, etc.).
• Perform raw material testing as per specification melt flow rate, specific gravity, vicat softening point, OIT, gel time, DSC, density, moisture analysis, paint viscosity, vial test, sieve analysis.
• Conduct post-coating tests flexibility, cathodic disbondment, indentation hardness, impact, tensile, elongation, tabor abrasion, pull-off adhesion, cross-cut adhesion, hardness.
• Test water used in manufacturing for pH, TDS, turbidity, conductivity, chloride, sulphate, and alkalinity.
• Test chemicals like phosphoric acid and chromate.
• Prepare and maintain inspection records, PQRs, test reports, and calibration logs.
• Supervise in-house and third-party calibration of lab instruments and maintain traceability records.
• Support internal and NABL audits with complete documentation and procedural compliance.
• Monitor material consumption and maintain inventory records.
• Guide lab technicians and QC personnel in daily tasks.
• Ensure that lab operations align with production targets and client specifications.
