About SISTWA

South India Scheduled Tribes Welfare Association (SISTWA) is a non-profit organization working towards the empowerment and welfare of Scheduled Tribes in South India. With a special focus on education, livelihood, and sustainable agriculture, SISTWA supports tribal communities through awareness programs, capacity building, and direct interventions to improve quality of life.

Position Overview

The Agriculture Development Officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring agricultural programs aimed at improving the livelihood of tribal farmers. The role requires hands-on technical support, capacity building, and community mobilization to promote sustainable farming practices, organic cultivation, and income generation for Scheduled Tribes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct baseline surveys to identify agricultural needs of tribal communities.
  • Provide training and demonstrations on sustainable farming practices, organic methods, crop diversification, and water management.
  • Support tribal farmers with modern agricultural techniques, seeds, fertilizers, and tools.
  • Promote kitchen gardens, integrated farming systems, and allied activities (dairy, poultry, goat rearing, etc.).
  • Organize farmer groups/SHGs (Self Help Groups) and link them with government schemes.
  • Monitor crop growth, soil fertility, and provide solutions for pest and disease management.
  • Coordinate with government agriculture departments, universities, and NGOs for technical and financial support.
  • Maintain records, prepare progress reports, and share field learnings with the organization.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Horticulture / Agricultural Extension or related field. (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in agriculture or rural development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of organic farming, irrigation methods, soil and crop management.
  • Experience in working with communities preferred.
  • Good communication skills in Tamil (mandatory) and English (preferred).
  • Ability to travel extensively to field locations.
  • Passion for social development and community empowerment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
