VMware Cloud Migration Specialist

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess existing on-premises VMware infrastructure, including vCenter, ESXi hosts, vSAN, NSX, and storage/network dependencies.
  
• Design the target cloud environment architecture (VMC, AVS, or GCVE) aligned with business and security requirements.
  
• Plan and execute migration strategy including rehost (lift & shift), replatform, or hybrid models using tools like HCX, vMotion, SRM, etc.
  
• Perform pre-migration validation, compatibility checks, and dependency mapping of workloads and applications.
  
• Execute POC and pilot migrations before full production rollout.
  
• Manage network configuration, VPNs, firewall rules, and routing between on-prem and cloud environments.
  
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure successful workload cutovers.
  
• Document migration runbooks, rollback plans, testing checklists, and post-migration validations.
  
• Provide technical support during and after migration, including performance tuning and issue resolution.
  

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of experience with VMware virtualization technologies (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi).
  
• Proven experience in large-scale VMware-to-Cloud migrations (VMC on AWS, AVS, or GCVE).
  
• Hands-on experience with VMware HCX, Site Recovery Manager (SRM), vMotion, and vSphere Replication.
  
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, storage (vSAN, NFS, iSCSI), and hybrid architectures.
  
• Familiarity with backup, DR solutions, and security hardening for VMware environments.
  
• Experience with automation tools (PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform optional but preferred).
  
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  

Certifications (Preferred):

• VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
  
• VMware Cloud on AWS / AVS / GCVE certifications
  
• AWS/GCP/Azure Fundamentals or Architect certifications
  

Nice to Have:

• Experience in compliance-driven environments (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, SOC2)
  
• Knowledge of hybrid identity integration (Azure AD, LDAP, SSO)
  
• Hands-on scripting (PowerShell/PowerCLI) for migration automation
