Job Description

A video content creator in digital marketing is responsible for planning, producing, editing, and publishing videos that promote a brand, product, or service across online channels. The role combines creative storytelling, basic marketing strategy, and technical video skills to drive awareness, engagement, and leads.​

Role overview

A video content creator develops video ideas aligned with marketing goals, then scripts, shoots or coordinates shoots, and edits videos for platforms like YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and websites. The role focuses on telling clear, engaging stories that fit the brand voice and support campaigns such as product launches, ads, and social media promotions.​

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and develop video concepts based on briefs, campaigns, and content calendars, in collaboration with the marketing team.​
  • Shoot or coordinate video production, including framing, lighting, audio, and basic direction of subjects when required.​
  • Edit videos for different formats (shorts, reels, long-form) and platforms, adding graphics, text overlays, music, and basic animations to match brand guidelines.​
  • Optimize videos for digital marketing by adding hooks, CTAs, subtitles, correct aspect ratios, and platform-specific versions to improve watch time and conversions.​
  • Publish and manage videos across channels (social media, website, email campaigns) and collaborate on thumbnails, titles, and descriptions using SEO and social best practices.​
  • Track performance metrics such as views, watch time, engagement, and click-throughs, and refine video style and strategy based on insights.​

Required skills

  • Strong video editing skills using tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut, with knowledge of exporting for different platforms.​
  • Understanding of digital marketing basics, including audience targeting, funnels, and how video fits into social media, paid ads, and content strategies.​
  • Ability to create platform-specific content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, LinkedIn, and website embeds, respecting trends and format requirements.​
  • Good storytelling, scriptwriting, and visual communication skills to explain products, features, or benefits clearly and persuasively.​
  • Basic knowledge of analytics tools and social media insights to evaluate performance and report results to the marketing team.​

Typical qualifications and experience

Many video content creators come from multimedia, marketing, communication, or design backgrounds, or have strong portfolios even without formal degrees. Employers often look for 1–3 years of hands-on content creation for digital channels, plus a portfolio showing social videos, ads, explainers, or reels aligned with brand goals.​
