University Counselor

• Relevant degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field.
• Experience with international curricula such as IB (MYP/DP) preferred.

Experience

• Prior experience in college counseling, secondary school guidance, or academic advising.
• Experience working with international or multicultural student populations is preferred.

Roles and Responsibilities

Student Guidance and Counseling

• Guide secondary students through the entire college admissions process.
• Teach students where to find information about colleges and programs.
• Advise students on whether college is the right choice and help plan academic pathways.
• Offer guidance on courses in MYP and IBDP to prepare for specific career paths.
• Advise students for college entrance exams (SAT, ACT, BMAT, UCAT, TOEFL, IELTS).
• Assist students in completing applications, essays, personal statements, resumes, scholarship applications, and other required documentation.
• Submit transcripts, predicted grades, and supplementary materials as required by universities.
• Write counselor recommendation letters and support teachers in writing confidential recommendations.

College Relations and Visits

• Build and maintain relationships with university admissions representatives.
• Keep updated on entrance requirements and offerings through visits and meetings with colleges.
• Arrange college visits for students and organize on-campus sessions with college personnel.
• Attend professional conferences (IC3, IACAC, NEASC/CIS) and information sessions.
• Share college-related guidance with students, parents, and staff through workshops and information sessions.
• Utilize platforms such as email, WhatsApp, and Facebook to communicate with other counselors and maintain professional networks.

OIS Events and Programs

• Attend essential and relevant seminars and promotional events.
• Guide students in meeting academic graduation requirements and university eligibility.
• Collaborate with teachers, coordinators, and SSP department to monitor student progress and placement.
• Create improvement plans and facilitate make-up credits through accredited online courses.
• Maintain records and results in the Cialfo College Guidance system.
• Guide students and parents in using the Cialfo platform and other online career resources.
• Implement Career Day for grades 7, 8, 9, and 11.
• Suggest volunteer opportunities, summer programs, internships, and academic courses.
• Organize a two-week summer internship program for grades 10 and 11.
• Manage PSAT/PreACT, SAT, Cambridge Assessment, and University of Waterloo testing events.
• Build and maintain the OIS Alumni Network and organize alumni sessions.
• Assist secondary students transferring to other schools with applications and testing requirements.
