Job Description

As an Emergency Care Technician (ECT), also known as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), your role involves providing immediate medical care to patients during emergencies. This includes assessing their condition, performing basic life support procedures like CPR, controlling bleeding, stabilizing injuries, and transporting them to a suitable medical facility. Your communication with other healthcare providers and emergency personnel is crucial in ensuring effective patient care. Key Responsibilities: - Patient Assessment: Quickly evaluate a patient's condition by taking vital signs, identifying injuries, and determining the level of urgency. - Basic Life Support: Administer CPR, airway management, oxygen therapy, and manage severe bleeding using appropriate techniques. - Trauma Care: Stabilize injuries such as fractures, wounds, and spinal injuries using proper immobilization techniques. - Medication Administration: Deliver prescribed medications based on medical protocols and certification level. - Patient Transport: Safely transport patients to the most suitable healthcare facility, providing necessary medical care during transport. - Communication: Maintain clear and concise communication with dispatchers, first responders, hospital staff, and patients/family members. - Documentation: Accurately document all patient care provided, including assessments, interventions, and vital signs. - Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check and maintain medical equipment within the ambulance or emergency response vehicle. Different Levels of Emergency Care Technicians: - EMT-Basic (EMT-B): Provides basic life support interventions like CPR, airway management, and basic wound care. - Advanced EMT (AEMT): Performs advanced skills like administering medications, advanced airway management, and complex trauma care. - Paramedic: Possesses the highest level of training, capable of advanced life support procedures, including advanced cardiac medications and invasive airway management. Required Skills and Qualifications: - Certification: Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by a recognized agency. - Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and move patients, perform physically demanding tasks in stressful situations. - Critical Thinking: Make quick decisions under pressure to provide appropriate medical care. - Communication Skills: Effective communication with patients, family members, healthcare providers, and dispatchers. - Stress Management: Ability to manage stressful situations and remain calm during emergencies.
